Do You Know Why and How Lamps are Recycled?
Air Cycle Corporation
Recycling fluorescent lamps is not only a green idea, but the right thing to do! Recycling reduces waste, saves energy, protects our environment, protects wildlife, preserves landfill space, and more. Fluorescent lamps contain mercury and in most cases are considered hazardous. If not properly disposed of, mercury has a harmful effect on the environment.
Have you ever wondered how fluorescent lamps are recycled? After arriving at a permitted recycling facility, the lamps are recycled in machines designed to break down the lamp and then separate the glass, metal, and mercury. Click here to see the lamp recycling process. Once the glass is clean of the mercury it can be reused as well as the metal, mercury, and phosphor powder.
