Intact Lamp Recycling
Spent fluorescent lamps and mercury vapor lamps contain mercury and may be considered hazardous waste. The determination of whether a lamp is hazardous is the responsibility of the generator through product knowledge or the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure test (also known as the TCLP test). The U.S. EPA classifies lamps containing 0.2 mg/kg. of mercury as potentially hazardous waste. Most fluorescent and mercury vapor lamps fail this TCLP test for mercury and must be properly disposed.
Furthermore, all generators of mercury-containing lamps could be responsible for any subsequent clean up costs if the lamps are sent to a solid waste landfill. To reduce this potential liability and the risk of potential fines due to improper disposal, Air Cycle Corporation offers a lamp recycling program to our customers nationwide.
