K-12 School Lighting Upgrade Grant Program

Illinois Clean Energy

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, in this fourth year of its school lighting upgrade program, recently awarded 320 grants totaling more than $10 million to assist K-12 schools throughout Illinois to upgrade to high quality, energy efficient lighting systems.

With these grants, the Foundation has awarded more than $27 million to 800 public school districts and nonprofit schools through this program since 2002. This funding has enabled the installation of highly efficient lighting in nearly 1500 K-12 school buildings in 91 of Illinois' 102 counties. These lighting upgrades save energy, reduce operating costs and prevent pollution in our communities.
